LISTEN TO THIS: Miss TK and The Revenge

March 28, 2008 · 4 Comments

It took me forever to find this group, and the reason I hunted them down was because of their song, “No Biterz.” I know how stupid it sounds, but the song was featured in a recent Clearisil ad; the one where the girl is rubbing up against all of these random people. Anyway, I immediately fell in love with the song, and have tracked down their history. Basically, Miss TK and The Revenge are a futuristic band from New Jersey, with hypnotic melodies and sensational instrumentation. Check them out!!!

Crazier than Me: Madonna

March 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After all of these years of trying to look 30, Madonna has still not accepted her age, which is why she’s crazier than me. I mean, if I’m actually in the music when I’m 50, and am still managing to make hits, I’d be pretty happy about how my age hadn’t affected my career! To add insult to injury, she’s getting old, and, sooner or later, she’s gonna have to retire (same with you, Rolling Stones!) All I ask, is that they try not to act as though they’re still 20, because all it does is make it seem like the senility’s kicking in. Though her hits are breathtaking, considering her age, Madonna is, without a douby, crazier than me.

Vid of the Day: He really had me fooled for a second!

March 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, this vid is totally not what you think. By the time you see the entire thing, you’ll feel like an idiot, just like I did. I don’t remember how I came across this vid, but you have to watch it entirely to understand the comedy. DON’T MAKE PRESUMPTIONS.

Music Industry = Irresponsibility

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Within the past year, hip-hop and rap artists have been arrested for weapon possessions and gang affiliations more times than Paris Hilton has drunk Champagne. Just recently, not only has Remy Ma has been convicted of first-degree assault, attempted coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon, but, coincidentally, rapper T.I. has plead guilty to federal weapons charges. Honestly, all of these arrests have only supported stereotypes of Black musicians, and, more importantly, African-Americans in general. Why is it presumed that I am violent because of the color of my skin? More importantly, why are so many powerful black people, specifically in the rap and hip-hop industries, involved with such shady business? Though it is true that many rap and hip-hop artists gain greater credibility by referencing violence, most other musicians, in general, opt to stay away from the topic of violence and still sell millions of albums. This lets me believe that to be in the music industry, you can have a successful career while maintaining a respectable lifestyle. If I had the power to change anything in the music industry, it would be the violence and corruption associated with it. However, I don’t have the power; the musicians have the power. Since, as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility, I believe that one of the many responsibilities of musicians is to guide others through their song. Quite frankly, I don’t think many of them are really responsible.

LISTEN TO THIS: Aaron Diehl

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In keeping with my whole “jazz-fanatic” vibe, I have to advert my favorite jazz musician, Aaron Diehl. When I was little, my mom worked at a funeral home, and my baby sitter lived right down the street. Accordingly, I would randomly be in the funeral home with my mom, for whatever reason. Aaron was usually there since his dad owned the funeral home, and he could be found playing the piano in his spare time. Even as a student at St. Charles, he was an amazing pianist. Since then, Aaron, a Juilliard alum and Wynton Marsalis discovery, is a professional jazz pianist, and inspired me to listen to Jazz through my heart. He is a truly breathtaking pianist, with perfect dynamics, and is the current musical director of St. Joseph of the Holy Family Church in Central Harlem. Listen to him!

Normal Concerts vs Jazz Concerts

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My Pick: Jazz concerts. Now, before you go stoning my house, I have a bit of explaining to do. The thing is, growing up, I listened to more smooth jazz than anything else, which is part of the reason why I listen to a large variety of music. Though there is absolutely no way to talk about Jazz without seeming pretentious, Jazz music is one of the best genres of music, because it provokes so much imagination. With normal concerts, you’ll listen to the songs over and over, buy tickets, hear the same songs you’ve listened to billions of times, preformed live, and either be totally shocked by how great the band is live, or be disappointed by how bad they are live. Either that, or someone tries to drag you to this concert you really don’t want to go to, get there, and sulk the whole time because of all of the sweat and loudness, then go home tired and stinky. Usually, jazz concerts are either really expensive or really free. My favorite jazz concerts are in the summertime, when they have the free gatherings at the park. The music is all great, and it doesn’t matter if you’re by yourself, or with a group; the music is 99% of the times perfect. Jazz concerts win by a landslide, but don’t stop going to regular concerts! All concerts are great!!!

Crazier than Me: Michael Jackson

March 27, 2008 · 22 Comments

This was an obvious one. Michael’s winning the poll (that no one is voting for), and he really has gone crazy. He’s recently lost his Neverland ranch, and has had his reputation slaughtered by child molestation charges. Michael’s really gone over the edge lately, however, I do encourage people to listen to his music. Why? Because they’re still classics, no matter how crazy he gets.

UPDATE: I guess he didn’t lose his ranch, but I don’t even know anymore. He’s turning 50 anyway, which means it’s time for him to stop being a kid and start being an adult, which means buying a sensible home, in my opinion.

Vid of the Day: I know more about baseball…

March 27, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is sad. This guy obviously won some sort of contest that he didn’t know he entered. He has no idea what to do. I feel bad for the people listening to this guy.  Even funnier, John Mayer posted this video. John Mayer! Could things be any more random?

No Morigami… ever

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, I think it’s safe to say that I’m the only one liking the Origami thing, and, in the long run, it’s gonna be pretty tiring having to take pics everyday, edit the pics, charge my camera battery, and do crazy stuff like that. Therefore, no more Origami posts will be made- you guys didn’t like it, and I’m already tired of it (after one day!) However, the Crazier than me, Video of the Day, and Listen to This posts will still be daily, and might be the only daily’s. It seems to me that you guys like it when I rant, so I have a lot to rant about. RANT RANT RANT!

Dreams

March 27, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What are dreams, and, occasionally, why are we afraid of them? Do we become afraid of our deepest desires, in fear that our lifestyle conflicts? As Cinderella as it may seem, dreams are really just wishes your heart makes. Whether we choose to follow our dreams is one matter, but whether we defer that dream is a different thing all together. I’m going to follow my dreams, if one approaches me, and I’ll hope for the best. I hope you’ll do the same.
